The Card Cave is Now Open in Canby

A familiar building now has a weekend alter ego in Canby. The Card Cave is a new hobby shop operated by Tony Ourad with help from his nephew Eli — located right next door to Tony’s State Farm office at 208 Saint Olaf Ave N. As of now, they’re open 10–5 Saturdays, 11–4 Sundays, and by appointment, with expanded hours in the works.

Tony collected as a kid and even set up at shows in the early ’90s. Like many of us, he stepped away for a while, then jumped back in a few years ago. Since then, he’s been setting up at shows in Omaha, Fargo, Sioux City, St. Paul, and Sioux Falls, building inventory and friendships along the way. “As far as opening the shop — I own the building and thought, what the heck,” Tony said. “I’ve become pretty good friends with Lucas Christoffer from The Card Farmers MN and guys like Eddie Falcon Jr., Nathan Woodard, and Dave Timmerman to name a few.”

Inside, you’ll find a couple tables for sorting and trading, TVs to watch the games, along with shelves and display cases filled with fresh inventory lining the walls. The Card Cave carries a nice mix of sealed TCG and sports products, including some classic wax: ’84 Topps baseball (Mattingly rookie), ’89 Fleer baseball (Billy Ripken error), ’89 Upper Deck baseball (Griffey Jr. rookie), and ’89 Score football featuring rookies of Barry Sanders, Troy Aikman, Deion Sanders and 8 other Hall of Famers. One thing that stands out from their social media: they’re always buying. A recent collection pickup brought in stacks of Michael Jordan cards along with vintage Hank Aaron and Mickey Mantle singles. Consistently buying collections — and giving collectors real liquidity — keeps fresh inventory flowing and a shop feeling alive.

The Card Cave is now listed in our Card Shop Directory, where you can find directions and other details about the shop. With a passionate family behind it, strong inventory, and a welcoming setup, they look to have a promising future, and we wish them the best of luck in this endeavor.
